Pay attention to electricity bill; If you don't pay attention to this, your account will be empty

Electricity bill fraud is rampant again in the country. Recently, scammers stole Rs 7.35 lakh from a 72-year-old man in Maharashtra through this kind of fraud. The victim of fraud is a retired person from the Intelligence Bureau service. Scammers extorted money from him by sending fake electricity bills.

Such electricity bill scams have been reported many times before. But this is the first time the scam has been reported again after a gap. Raghunath Karambelkar has now lost his money. He was ready to pay the money after receiving a warning that the electricity connection would be disconnected if he did not pay immediately. The Navghar police have registered a case in the incident.

The fraudsters contacted Raghunath Karambelkar by phone. The fraudsters contacted him on the phone and told him that he had paid the last month's bill but had not received the document. They also threatened to disconnect the electricity if the money was not paid immediately. He was then given a number in the name of an official of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board to contact him.

Raghunath contacted via WhatsApp on this number. The fraudsters then sent him a fake link to pay the bill. But he could not access this link. Later, Raghunath accessed this link from his wife's phone. The scammers forced him to pay Rs 5 as a special fee and share his personal details for the billing process.

Then he shared this information. After this, he came to know that a large amount of money was lost from the account. The message received from the bank stated that the fixed deposits of 5 lakhs and 2 lakhs have been withdrawn. Apart from this, he also lost Rs 34,000 from his savings account. After this, Raghunath lodged a complaint with the police.

Police have registered a case of fraud and cyber fraud against unknown scammers in the incident. The investigation is currently focused on the phone number used by the fraudsters. There are many scams similar to this. Earlier, e-challan scams, scams by sending malicious viruses, scams by dating apps, and scams by sending phishing emails have all been reported.

Users should be careful of such online scams. Do not respond to phone calls and messages from unknown people. Do not click on the links in the messages they send. This link will take you to websites full of malicious viruses. Once these viruses reach your device scammers can control this device from anywhere.

You should also avoid sharing personal information with people you don't know online. To avoid such scams related to electricity bills, pay the bill only from the industrial website of KSEB. If in doubt contact the nearest KSEB office. By following all the above-mentioned points you can avoid online scams to a certain extent.
